The existence of art has become a beaconing representation of the beginning in human civilization. Every art form has their own unique language. Music is often expressed through rhythms and tones, while art is displayed through varied media tools, as well as literature that possesses endless trails of words. It is rather impossible for art to be understood in a unified language.
Just as human adapt to changes through time, art as symbolization of human existence reflects this attribute too. At the beginning, art is limitedly based on time measures, which can be categorized by primitive (old) or contemporary (modern).
During the primitive era, the formation of art went through a mimetic process, a process where art is closely related to nature, and often mimicking nature. More often than not, primitive art becomes a medium to exhibit nature as a source of life and to represent origins of eternity.
In a transformative era where primitive times started becoming more contemporary, human had intervened the aforementioned harmonization between art and nature. By then, human invention is tantamount to that of natural creations. A price was put on art pieces, making them an exchangeable material that symbolizes hierarchical strata of society.
A more modern era had encouraged an art transformation to emphasize on human expression, implement new mediums and techniques, as well as exploring different origins of artistic ideas. In this era too, the creation of art isn’t simply defined by time and space, as seen from the works of Van Gogh, Affandi, Basuki Abdullah or Pablo Picasso.
Contemporary art is the result of a modernisation process that develops as the era changes. Typically, the artistic value became indefinite as time measures became inconsequential, and various art influences had idealized into contemporary art forms.
The notion carried out early this year by EV Hive and PT. Pos Indonesia for Gedung Filateli Jakarta is a form of collaboration that discounted a contrasting past and present. A conception where communities can earn a shared platform while utilizing a historical landmark in Jakarta.
EV Hive @ Filateli is the 19th co-working space from EV Hive since its establishment in 2015. EV Hive’s existence and Gedung Filateli, Post Telefon en Telegraf, became a crossroad between a stained glass decorated colonial heritage and a future community in a rapid growing communication and technology era.
